About YIM

Yakha Ikusasa Manje (YIM) Health Development Centre is an NPO registered as Section 21company. It has been in existence from August 2004. Its focus area is Primary Health Care (PHC) and HIV/AIDS services. We offers a range of services to individuals and families infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. We started because of the large number of people in Kingsway, Lindelani and Bascelona (all informal settlement) who were infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. There was no organization in these areas which could render these services. YIM Health Development Centre serves to ensure that the basic needs of people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWA) and people affected by HIV and AIDS are met. Its goal is to ensure an extended benefit to beneficiaries.

The organization is also working to prevent HIV infection among children and adolescence made vulnerable by AIDS, and among adults, to prevent further orphaning. We also support grandparents who are left behind with their different sets of grandchildren because of the HIV and AIDS pandemic. There is a continuation to advocate for care and support of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) within families and community context.

Why Support Us

Continued Community Engagement: Plans to strengthen outreach and education efforts, addressing misconceptions and enhancing trust within the community.

Enhanced Collaboration: Aiming to improve partnerships with healthcare facilities and other organizations to better serve the community's needs.

Volunteers providing home-based care play a vital role in supporting vulnerable individuals within their communities. They offer essential services such as basic healthcare, emotional support, and assistance with daily activities to those who are elderly, chronically ill, or otherwise unable to care for themselves. These volunteers not only improve the quality of life for the individuals they serve but also help relieve the burden on formal healthcare systems. Through their compassion and dedication, they make a meaningful difference in the well-being of those in need.

Support for Orphan and Vulnerable Children (OVC) is essential to ensuring their well-being and development. This support includes providing access to education, healthcare, nutrition, and emotional care for children who have lost parents or are in vulnerable situations due to poverty, illness, or family instability. Programmes aimed at OVC offer a safe and nurturing environment, helping them build resilience and gain the skills needed for a brighter future. By addressing both their immediate needs and long-term development, support for OVC helps break the cycle of vulnerability and creates opportunities for these children to thrive.

Volunteers providing HIV and AIDS support groups play a crucial role in the lives of individuals affected by the virus. These volunteers offer emotional support, education, and resources to those living with HIV/AIDS, helping them cope with the challenges of the condition. Through group meetings, they create a safe space for participants to share experiences, reduce stigma, and foster a sense of community. Volunteers also provide guidance on health management, treatment adherence, and mental well-being, empowering individuals to lead healthier lives while combating isolation and discrimination. Their work is vital in promoting hope and resilience within the HIV/AIDS community.

The Community Gardening project plays a key role in promoting food security within vulnerable communities. Through this initiative, community members come together to cultivate their own gardens, growing fresh, nutritious produce to feed their families and neighbors. Volunteers and participants are trained in sustainable farming techniques, ensuring the gardens are productive and environmentally friendly. This project not only addresses immediate hunger but also empowers communities by fostering self-reliance and resilience. By improving access to healthy food, the Community Gardening project helps combat malnutrition and supports the overall well-being of those in need.

The distribution of food parcels in the community is a vital initiative aimed at combating hunger and supporting vulnerable households. These parcels contain essential food items that provide immediate relief to families facing food insecurity. Volunteers play a key role in organizing and delivering the parcels, ensuring that those in need—such as the elderly, unemployed, and orphaned children—receive support. This initiative not only addresses urgent nutritional needs but also fosters a sense of solidarity and care within the community, helping to alleviate the pressures of poverty and hunger.

The After School Programme provides a safe and supportive environment for children to engage in educational and personal development activities outside of regular school hours. Focused on improving academic performance, the programme offers tutoring in subjects like Math, Science, and English, while also incorporating arts, sports, and life skills training. Beyond academics, the programme fosters personal growth, resilience, and confidence in learners, especially those from vulnerable backgrounds. By providing access to mentorship, psychosocial support, and structured activities, the After School Programme helps children thrive academically and socially, preparing them for future success in education and life.
